Zabuton

Shoten.jpg

*Zabuton = Japanese cushion

A square, flat cushion used when sitting on a tatami floor, as well as an iconic object in Japan's longest-running family TV show, Shoten. In a Q&A style chat with the host a la Rakugo – traditional seated comedy (yep, sitting down on a tatami, not standing up), artists would compete at who can give the wittiest response to questions. Each artist starts with a single zabuton at the beginning of the show, and the host would give more zabutons for funny responses or take them away for un-funny responses. When someone collects 10 zabutons, they get a prize!

Anyone in Japan can sing this opening theme song too.
